It is definitely a problem with the version of mysql installed with either Fedora 11 (MySql v 5.1.37) or Fedora 12 (MySql v 5.1.39). CentOS 5.4 came with a MySql v 5.0.x.

I did a dump of the mysql settings for a fresh CentOS 5.4 system and a Fedora 11 and attached both the cnf files for each machine along with the variable dumps.

I will try to work through the setup.sql as you suggested but if you do a diff on the mysql variables files you will see there are quite a few differences. You may be able to spot the setting that may be causing the grief.

Also I am going to probably continue playing around with the shim on a CentOS VirtualBox. If I am happy I'll convert a machine I have from F11 to C!
entOS.

I have one issue with CentOS running in a VirtualBox is that I cannot get the display bigger than 800x600 resolution. The guest additions were installed the virtual display worked properly for one session (not right away) but now is stuck in 800x600 mode. If you have any ideas how to fix this one it would be appreciated.
